Dry carefully.

After you get out of the water, resist rubbing your eyes or scrubbing at them with a towel. Instead, gently pat dry and allow your lashes to dry fully and then comb out gently if needed. If you’re in a hurry, a hairdryer set on low held at arm’s length from your face can help speed up the process.

Your eyelashes look amazing with your new eyelash extensions, but your eye makeup – not so much. You need makeup that complements your look. In addition, using the wrong makeup with extensions can result in fallout or damage – meaning your extensions may be gone much sooner than the six weeks you expected them to last. Here are 5 makeup tips for eyelash extensions:

1) Eyeliner

Eyeliner helps your eyes to stand out. When you place liner, do so at the right side of the eyelash line. Keep the line thin for a more natural look, and thicker for a more contemporary one.

You should avoid pencil eyeliner. Using a pencil eyeliner on the line of your eyelashes while you have extensions on, can cause tangles and lash fallout. You may think that cream eyeliners or a gel liner is a good alternative, but you will just end up with residue on your lashes. Waterproof liquid eyeliner is another type to avoid as it requires a more vigorous removal process that can damage your false eyelashes.

Instead of the above, try a cake eyeliner. A cake liner is simple to use and offers long-lasting color. It works smoothly against your eyelash line and will stay all day. An additional option is a liquid eyeliner (non-waterproof) than can be contoured to accentuate the eyelid and the lashes.

2) Mascara

You probably use mascara daily without eyelash extensions, and you can use some kinds with them, but avoid tubing mascara. Tubing mascara is the formula that is removable without a special makeup remover. Unfortunately, this formula does not work well with false lashes. Need an alternative? Try an Amazonian clay and rice wax mascara. It adheres to individual eyelashes and prevents lash loss.

3) Highlight

Highlight your cheekbones with blush or bronzer to create a focal point to your eyes and lashes. You can also set a tone that highlights your lashes with a strong lip color.

4) Makeup remover

Makeup removers that are oil-based are great for removing eye makeup, but it works so well that it can remove your eyelash extensions too! Rather than oil-based remover, opt for a oil-free eye makeup remover that is gentle on the skin. That’s the best bet for ensuring your lashes stick with you.

5) Skin care

The best thing you can do to enhance and protect false eyelashes, is to take great care of your skin. Use a daily skincare regimen to protect all areas of your face – especially the easily irritated skin around your eyes. Cleanse your face and gently remove eye makeup.
