5 Tips To Help Tired, Puffy Eyes

Puffy eyes are the result of fluid retention around the eye frequently caused by stress, allergies or hormonal changes. Puffy or swollen eyes can also be affected by diet and sleep. Puffy, tired eyes may not be painful, but we generally feel undesirable when we have them. The good news is that there are remedies to help reduce puffy eyes. Here are five tips to help you:

1) Use Water

Before you reach to continue the endless cycle of caffeine – soda and coffee – to address sleepiness, consider breaking the cycle with drinking enough water. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. Water also helps to clear your body of toxins. Aside from ingesting water, you can also use cold water directly on your eyes to reduce a puffy appearance. Either splash cold water directly on your eye or use a washcloth to apply cold water for several minutes on the eye.

2) Try Spoons

Cold spoons can help to tighten skin around your eyes reducing puffiness. Simply chill several metal spoons for ten minutes, and hold the spoon on your eye until it becomes warm. Then replace it with another spoon.

3) Apply Food

Using food over the eyes is frequently seen when a spa is depicted on television, but some remedies may be more familiar than others. You likely know that cold cucumbers for 10 minutes can help reduce puffy eyes and dark circles. But did you know that potatoes work also? You can also try cold tea bags or strawberries!

4) Massage Daily

You can learn to massage your puffy eyes away. Massage helps to move any fluid that has settled around the eye. To begin, just close your eyes and lightly press a finger under your eye moving it like an arc from inside out to the outside edge of your eye. Repeat around ten times on both eyes, but take care not to press too hard. If you have recurring issues with tired eyes, make a habit to massage every day when you wake up.

5) Get Enough Sleep

One of the worst habits you can have is not to get enough sleep every day. Focus on healthy sleep habits including getting eight hours of sleep per night and maintaining a good sleep posture. If your head is slightly elevated while you sleep, it can help to alleviate fluid from building up under your eyes.
